Syracuse, N.Y. — A memorial service has been announced for Jacqueline R. Warren-Moore, 71, a long-time Syracuse poet, author, activist and columnist who died Friday.
The memorial celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Syracuse Stage, 820 E. Genesee St., Syracuse.
Warren-Moore was originally from Elmira, but had lived in Syracuse for most of her life.
She was a poet, author, playwright and columnist for the Syracuse community. In 2014, she became a guest columnist for Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard, where she wrote about such issues as police brutality, racism and sexual violence. But she also wrote about ordinary things like friendship and adopting a stray cat.

In 2006, Warren-Moore was honored as one of The Post-Standard People of Achievement.
She also worked for years with at-risk youth and jail inmates, touring and teaching at prisons throughout Central New York according to her daughter, Mia Moore.
Warren-Moore worked at the Syracuse Renaissance Academy, the Power United Motivating Youth Program, the Center for Community Alternatives, The NAACP, and the Paul Robeson Performing Arts Company, as well as many others.
She taught at Syracuse University in the African American Studies department and in the Syracuse public school district. Her daughter said that she touched the lives of countless community members through her work.
Warren-Moore had been struggling with health issues since a stroke several years ago.
Donations may be made to Chadwick Residence in lieu of flowers, according to her obituary.
